Franz Ferdinand's video "This Fire" was in rotation on AOL's music on demand, and I got a better look at the Constructivist images used. (Rodchenko helps sell a Scottish pop band).

Then I thought how music morphed into the aggregate "music video". Its abstract origin solidified and digested by the visual medium. It's been happening over 20 years and we took to it. Music is good, music video is better. Is it the unconscious opinion? Listen to the "This Fire" mp3 here.

In this context, the video makes the song better (more complete, more experiential). It's as if the music is no longer the commodity. Maybe the music industry should sell products/packaging/incentives that can't be downloaded. Music as persona enhancer.

A hundred years ago, the reverse process was occurring. Kandinsky was first to represent the abstact notion of music in the visual realm. In all his conversations with Rodchenko, they could never imagine a future Music Television appropriating the visual world. Or that this MTV would employ Rodchenko to help make music visual.
